WHAT IS CANSTRUCTION?                         CanstructionInternationalLogo_000.jpg

Canstruction is a food-raising event that brings together teams of engineers, designers, architects and students who compete to design and build intricate structures from thousands of cans of food. These impressive works of art could be as large as 10'x10'x6'.

The first Canstruction competition took place in New York in 1993 and has since spread to more than one hundred and ten cities worldwide. Photos of Waterloo Region's Canstruction structures are judged along side structures from other cities. In 2009, one of our teams received the International Award for the Best Meal!

This event, held at Conestoga Mall, draws the attention of 10,000 plus viewers along with extensive print and television media coverage. Corporate supporters return year after year and are proud to be part of this professional display of artistry and structural design expertise. 2012 marks the fifth year The Food Bank of Waterloo Region will host Canstruction. To date Canstruction has raised over 125,000 lbs of food which was distributed to over 26,500 people, through agencies of The Food Bank.

MORE INFORMATION

Many of these teams of Architects, Engineers, designers and students have garnered the generous support of community donors and firms who they partner in business with to purchase all the food used in these structures. This food will be shared with neighbours in our community through distribution at The Food Bank of Waterloo Region at the close of the competition. Other teams involvement is made possible by the generous support from Strassburger Windows and Doors, WalterFedy and Conestoga Mall.
