Fresher + Better, Thanks to You!

Thanks to your support, The Food Bank of Waterloo Region is on track to distribute more fresh, healthy food this year than ever before.

Fruits and vegetables are an essential part of a healthy diet – yet they are often out of reach for families on a limited budget. Together, we are finding solutions. Our new food processing room will make an incredible difference to the quality and quantity of fresh produce we will be able to offer our community. Currently under construction, our new on-site food processing room is a space specially designed for safe and efficient food sorting, cleaning and preparation.

Being able to process food at our warehouse means we can accept more fresh produce donations and safely preserve them for future distribution. So agencies with limited fridge and freezer space will soon have the ability to get more fresh food for their program participants. This new space will also allow us to fill gaps in our inventory by cost-effectively purchasing bulk items such as beans, rice and flour, knowing we have the means to safely repackage them into smaller portions ready for distribution to families in need.

All in all, we anticipate being able to process more than 105,000 lb of fresh food in the processing room each year! Of course, none of this would be possible without your amazing support.
