The Results Are In…

September 7th, 2021Events

For many of us, summer means adventure, outdoor activities, and time well spent with family and friends.

But for thousands of people – particularly children – in Waterloo Region, summer days look very different. When school-run food programs closed for summer break, thousands of children – 1 in 3 – in our community were left wondering where their next meal would come from.

In July, we asked for your help to raise one million meals by August 31 for our Full Bellies. Happy Hearts., campaign. We know the goal was ambitious, but we also know how incredible this community is.

The results are in, and we are so excited to share the news!

Not only did you help us achieve our goal, but thanks to your unwavering support, we raised…

1.5 million meals and counting!

Community Continues to Drive Campaign Success

Three years ago, when we launched the first Full Bellies. Happy Hearts., campaign, we never could have imagined the impact it would have. To date, the campaign has raised more than 3.5 million meals.

Right from the start, this campaign was about community. Not only does it help combat the drastic drop in donations and low inventory we typically experience leading up to and during the summer months, but it is also a way for people to help each other and ensure we all have food on the table.

By supporting Full Bellies. Happy Hearts., you are helping to ensure no one goes hungry.

Your generosity contributed to the success of Full Bellies. Happy Hearts. and will help us do more. We are able to expand our reach and impact by:

  • Developing new, innovative programs and partnerships.
  • Filling gaps in our inventory by purchasing bulk food that meets a variety of cultural and diverse food needs.
  • Purchasing new equipment, such as pump trucks, and forklifts to ensure food is safely, and efficiently transported and stored throughout our warehouse.
  • Keeping our delivery vehicles on the road picking up and distributing food safely and consistently to the Community Food Assistance Network.

Your support has helped to ease the worries of thousands of families in our community and ensure that children will have access to fresh, healthy, and nutritious food.

We Can’t Thank You Enough

A special thank you to our matching donor, the Allan Bush Investment Team, for not only matching donations to the campaign this year, but also inspiring many others to get involved. Along with all of you, Allan has been critical to the success of Full Bellies. Happy Hearts.

While we are grateful to the many community members and corporate partners who supported the Full Bellies. Happy Hearts., one million meal challenge, we also know the work continues. Last year, we acquired, coordinated, and distributed 5,041,082 pounds of fresh, frozen, and non-perishable food to the Community Food Assistance Network – a system of 100+ community programs and agency partners working together to provide access to food and other vital supports and services. The Community Food Assistance Network supports more than 33,000 people annually throughout Waterloo Region through community meals, emergency food hampers, and shelter and residential programs.
