Volunteer Spotlight: Meet David

April 24th, 2022Volunteers

Today marks the start of National Volunteer Week 2022 and the theme is Empathy in Action. Throughout the week, we will be spotlighting some of our incredible volunteers, learning why they volunteer at The Food Bank of Waterloo Region and what empathy means to them.

Meet David.

He started volunteering at The Food Bank about four years ago, mostly for the exercise. His work involves sitting all the time, so he was looking for a volunteer opportunity that kept him on the move!

During his time as a volunteer, David has learned a lot about the type of foods we distribute, including the different categories of fruit and other types of food he hadn’t heard of before.

When asked what empathy means to him, he shared: “Empathy is really feeling what other people feel and being in their place. When I was in my 20’s I actually used the services of The Food Bank for a while.”

To those considering volunteering at The Food Bank, David wants you to know it’s just fun.

Thank you David for choosing to volunteer your time with us. We are grateful for your continued commitment to helping neighbours in need and bringing heart to our community.
