Volunteer Spotlight: Meet Tori
April 30th, 2022Volunteers
Meet Tori.
Tori has been volunteering at The Food Bank of Waterloo Region for about three months. “I have a lot of free time and I want to do something with that free time,” she explained. “I chose The Food Bank because I have family members that have used the services, so I know how important it is. It really is a great community with great people.”
She has found the entire experience to be very fulfilling and looks forward to it more than she thought she would. “It doesn’t feel like a chore or like work in the normal sense, it’s my fun day!”
When asked what empathy means to him, she said: “Empathy means being able to see things from someone else’s point of view and feeling for their situation without judgement. That’s the most important part, without judgement.”
To those considering volunteering at The Food Bank, Tori says: “Don’t hold back, just jump in to it! There are so many tasks and their schedule can fit so easily with yours – you are not pigeon holed to one task or one day. There’s work for a variety of people with a variety of lifestyles.”
