With one in eight Canadians affected by a food-borne illness every year, food safety is extremely important. Food safety refers to the handling, preparing and storing of food in ways that reduce the risk of food-borne illness. As local food banks support vulnerable populations including children, seniors and immunocompromised individuals, special measures need to be taken when distributing food.
