How the Food Bank of Waterloo Region makes safe food-handling a top priority

In this month’s opinion in the Waterloo Record, Wendi Campbell, CEO of The Food Bank of Waterloo Region, addresses the importance of safe food handling. With one in eight Canadians affected by a food-borne illness every year, food safety is extremely important. Food safety refers to the handling, preparing and storing of food in ways that reduce the risk of food-borne illness. As local food banks support vulnerable populations including children, seniors and immunocompromised individuals, special measures need to be taken when distributing food.
