5 Ways to Support The Food Bank This Summer
July 10th, 2024Awareness, In the Community
Interested in joining The Food Bank of Waterloo Region in the fight against hunger? Here are five ways you can support our work and make a difference this summer.
Donate funds
For those who can afford to give, please consider supporting our Full Bellies. Happy Hearts. campaign. Each year, we run this campaign at The Food Bank to raise money to make sure kids and their families in Waterloo region have access to healthy and nutritious food all year round. This is especially important during the summer when school nutrition programs stop, leaving many kids without access to the food they need. You can donate online or drop off a financial donation at 50 Alpine Court in Kitchener. Normally, for every dollar donated, we can provide two meals for someone facing hunger. But during Full Bellies. Happy Hearts., two meals become four meals thanks to a generous match from the Allan Bush Investment Team.
Donate non-perishable food
Donating kid-friendly, non-perishable food is another great way to help feed kids and their families this summer and throughout the year. These donations keep our shelves stocked and allow us to provide safe, healthy, and nutritious food to our partners in the Community Food Assistance Network, who directly support families experiencing food insecurity. You can drop off non-perishable food items at any grocery store or police, fire, or paramedic station in Kitchener-Waterloo or to our distribution centre. Right now, our most needed items are:
- Apple sauce
- Fruit and pudding cups
- Granola bars
- Juice boxes
- Peanut butter
Host a food and fund drive barbecue
Are you hosting a barbecue this summer? Why not make it in support of The Food Bank? Simply ask those attending your barbeque to bring a monetary or non-perishable food donation for The Food Bank. Be sure to register your food and fund drive at thefoodbank.ca/ffd so we can provide you with boxes, bags, and posters paid for by our sponsors, as well as step-by-step instructions for setting up your own custom online donation page.
