Three Ways Swifties Can Help Shake Off Hunger in Waterloo Region

October 22nd, 2024In the Community, Events

Taylor Swift is bringing her Eras Tour to Toronto and playing six shows at the Rogers Centre between November 14 and 23, 2024. Taylor is known for her generosity and giving back to the community, and often donates to food banks in cities where she performs.

Are you a Swiftie in Waterloo region? Here are three ways you can take swift action and support hunger relief like Taylor does!

Attend our Swifties Against Hunger event

The Food Bank of Waterloo Region is thrilled to host Swifties Against Hunger, a new awareness and fundraising event at our distribution centre on Wednesday, November 13. Join us for friendship bracelet-making, Swiftie trivia and prizes, and the chance to shake it off to all your favourite songs! Wear a comfy cardigan or come dressed in style as your favourite album era. Enjoy delicious snacks and meet other fearless Swifties while having fun and supporting a great cause—it’s going to be an enchanted evening you won’t want to miss!

Tickets are $13—Taylor’s favourite number. For every ticket sold, The Food Bank can provide 26 meals for people facing hunger. Get your tickets today to secure your spot! And hurry—space is limited.

Donate $13, $22, or $87

Swiftie fans know all too well how important the numbers 13 and 22 are so why not turn them into meaningful donations? Donate $13 in honour of Taylor’s lucky number—just $13 provides 26 meals for those in need. Or pay tribute to her hit song 22 with a $22 donation, which helps provide 44 meals for people experiencing hunger. If you’d like to give even more, donate $87 as a nod to the jersey number worn by Taylor’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce. An $87 donation provides 174 meals for people in food-insecure households. Every contribution, whether it’s $13, $22, or $87, helps us reach our wildest dreams of reducing food insecurity in Waterloo region.

Donate a non-perishable red food item

Another way Swifties can spark change and spread happiness to those in need is by donating non-perishable red food items in honour of Taylor’s fourth studio album, Red. Non-perishable food donations keep our shelves stocked and allow us to provide safe, healthy, and nutritious food to the 54 organizations in the Community Food Assistance Network that provide direct food support to the 1 in 8 households in Waterloo region struggling to afford to put food on the table. You can drop off non-perishable red food items, like tomato soup and pasta sauce, at any grocery store or police, fire, or paramedic station in Kitchener-Waterloo. Together, we can help people out of the woods, one red item at a time!

Whether you attend our Swifties Against Hunger event, give money, or donate food, you’re helping us ensure that no one in Waterloo region experiences a blank space at their table. Thank you, Swifties, your support for our work is bigger than the whole sky.
