Do you believe everyone should have access to healthy food, and that food can be a powerful tool for connecting people and building better health and a stronger community? Are you someone who is excited to make a difference and help support The Food Bank of Waterloo Region’s (The Food Bank) mission to obtain and distribute emergency food from our neighbours to our neighbours?
We are looking for Board Members to join our volunteer leadership team in September 2021 for a 3-year term.
The Food Bank is dedicated to meeting the needs of the community and ensuring no one goes hungry. Through community partnerships, The Food Bank acquires and distributes food to 100+ local community agencies and food programs. At the centre of our Community Food Assistance Network, we facilitate and coordinate partnerships through a systems level approach – providing food and connection to the vital supports needed by individuals living in Waterloo Region. We work with agency partners, community stakeholders and government partners to build network capacity ensuring capacity, consistency, efficiencies, and effective service delivery through all parts of our community.
Transformational Impact at The Food Bank:
- 33,355 individuals served by the Community Food Assistance Network last year.
- 5,041,182 pounds of food was acquired and distributed throughout the Community Food Assistance Network in Waterloo Region.
- 230 food hampers are distributed every day in Waterloo Region through Network programs.
- In 2018, 3,544,025 meals were served through emergency hamper programs, community centres and outreach, community meals, school nutrition programs and shelter and residential services.
- 1,475 community meals are distributed every day.
- Nearly 40% of households seeking food assistance are families with children.

We commit to increasing the diversity of our Board by actively and intentionally recruiting individuals who reflect the communities we serve including those who have lived experience with food insecurity.

We’re looking for volunteers with the skills, perspectives, experiences, and passion to help us be better and do better. Previous board experience is helpful but not necessary as we aim to bring as diverse a perspective to our Board as possible.
We need volunteer Board Members with experience in equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) & anti-racism work, health & wellness, real estate development, finance, legal, user-experience innovation, and organizational development & culture.
