Welcome to the Kitchener Market. We are excited to welcome you as a participant of the Market Dollar Pilot Program, a joint initiative between the Kitchener Market, The Food Bank of Waterloo Region (The Food Bank), and House of Friendship.

What is the Market Dollar Pilot Program?

The focus of the Market Dollar Pilot Program is to increase the access, availability, and affordability of fresh food for families in our community. The Market Dollar Pilot Program launches August 7, 2021 and runs until October 31, 2021.

During the pilot phase, we have invited a select group of families to participate in the program. We would appreciate your feedback to share your experience and ideas about how the program could be improved for the future.

  • Twenty families were pre-selected to participate and will be allotted $100 Market Dollars each month to shop at the Kitchener Market.
  • Market Dollars will have an expiry date.
  • Participating vendors will be identified by a sticker on the plexiglass.

How the Market Dollar Pilot Program Works

Prior to the Market Dollar Pilot Program launch, Family Outreach Worker Dianne Piluk at House of Friendship will on-board participating families. Dianne will provide vouchers to be used at the Kitchener Market.

Once you have your Market Dollars, you can visit the Kitchener Market – Saturdays from 7 a.m. – 2 p.m. – to do your grocery shopping. Participating vendors will be easily identifiable by looking for this logo (pictured right).

You will have the flexibility to spend your Market Dollars as needed to support your family. This may mean purchasing groceries, and/or pre-made meals, including meat.

Note: Market Dollars do expire at the end of each month.

After the Market Dollar Pilot Program

When the program wraps up on October 31, 2021, we will be reaching out to you with a survey to learn more about your experience with the program.

We would greatly appreciate your feedback to help us understand what worked and areas for improvement.
