    2WSIB Insurance Coverage

Volunteers helping during the emergency and stay-at-home orders have access to WSIB insurance coverage through the Volunteer Action Centre and become part of the Pandemic Volunteer Program of Waterloo Region. Even if you are retired or are currently unemployed, WSIB insurance may cover health benefits related to your volunteering during the stay-at-home orders and provincial emergency. The Food Bank encourages volunteers to consider applying for WSIB insurance coverage.

Note: You may start volunteering with The Food Bank while this application is in process.

Applying for Emergency Volunteer WSIB insurance coverage

To apply for Emergency Volunteer WSIB coverage, you must join the Pandemic Volunteer Program through the Volunteer Action Centre. During the application process, you will be able to share that you are already a volunteer with The Food Bank and wish to remain here. We realize this process is similar to what you have already completed with our organization, however this is necessary for every volunteer in order to meet the legislative requirements to qualify for WSIB coverage for your safety and security.

To join the volunteer pool, you must:
    • Complete an online application form.
