Advocate
The Food Bank of Waterloo Region is seeing record demand, highlighting the urgent need to address poverty—the root cause of food insecurity. Emergency programs help, but lasting change requires government action to improve incomes.
Together for change
We’re partnering with our provincial and national allies to urge elected officials to make poverty and food insecurity a priority. Feed Ontario and Food Banks Canada have put forward strong policy recommendations—on social assistance, living wages, and affordable housing—which we fully support.
Improve social assistance
Invest in affordable housing
Support low-income workers
Canada Disability Benefit
It’s unacceptable that Canadians with disabilities should have to rely on food banks or choose between life’s basic necessities. Due to persistent advocacy by disability rights organizations, we now have the Canada Disability Benefit, which marks a significant step forward in reducing food insecurity and poverty among adults with disabilities in Canada. But in its current form, it falls short of providing the meaningful change needed. You can learn more and take action at fundthebenefit.ca.
