Donate most-needed food items to help The Food Bank of Waterloo Region provide safe, nourishing food to local food assistance programs serving individuals and families facing hunger across Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, and the townships.

Before you donate food

Before dropping off a food donation, please make sure your items are safe, unopened, and suitable for community distribution. To ensure every neighbour receives safe, high-quality food, all donations must follow established food safety standards. These guidelines help protect client health, support efficient distribution, and ensure donated items can be shared quickly with local food assistance programs providing reliable, nutritious food to people in need.

  1. Donate unopened, sealed food items only.
  2. Choose non-perishable pantry items whenever possible.
  3. Avoid homemade food, opened packages, or damaged packaging.
  4. Check best-before dates before donating.
  5. Prioritize nutritious, high-demand items such as canned protein, canned vegetables, rice, pasta, peanut butter, cereal, and shelf-stable meals.
  6. Packaging must be undamaged, clearly labelled, and commercially prepared.

For large fresh, frozen, or surplus food donations, contact The Food Bank before drop-off to confirm storage and transportation needs.

Dropping off food donations

Donating non-perishable food in Kitchener-Waterloo is easy! Drop items at grocery stores, police, fire, or paramedic stations, or bring them to 50 Alpine Court, Kitchener, during community drop-off hours.

Use the yellow Customer Service door and ring the bell at The Food Bank of Waterloo Region. We also accept unopened pet food, personal care items, and cleaning supplies.

Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday:

8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.

Tuesday:

8:30 a.m.–8 p.m.

Second Saturday of each month (October to June):

 9 a.m.–3 p.m.
