5 Ways to Make a Difference This Hunger Action Month

September is Hunger Action Month—a nationwide awareness campaign that draws attention to hunger in our communities and encourages each one of us to take action to address food insecurity and support those in need. The Food Bank of Waterloo Region is joining food banks across the country to amplify our collective voice and advocate for solutions to end food insecurity and poverty.

Sign our petition

To meaningfully address food insecurity, we need the provincial and federal governments to implement policies that reduce poverty and improve incomes for food-insecure households.

Feed Ontario and Food Banks Canada have put forward several policy recommendations on social assistance, affordable housing, and living wages for the provincial and federal governments to consider. The Food Bank supports these recommendations as long-term solutions to food insecurity and poverty.

Sign our petition to add your voice to our call for elected officials to take meaningful action to reduce hunger and poverty. This means ensuring people have the income they need to keep up with the rising cost of living—and working toward a future where the cost of living is affordable for everyone.

We’ll share the petition with local politicians to show that Waterloo region residents are united in tackling food insecurity at its root cause: poverty.

Together, we can create a Waterloo region where no one experiences hunger.

Donate food or funds

If you can afford to give, non-perishable food and financial donations are greatly appreciated. Drop off a non-perishable food item at any grocery store in Kitchener-Waterloo or donate online. Every dollar donated to The Food Bank can help provide two meals for someone facing hunger.

Become a volunteer

If you have time to spare, we’re always looking for volunteers to help in our distribution centre or at a community fundraising event in support of The Food Bank. Visit our website to learn more about our volunteer opportunities.
