Looking for a fun and meaningful way to give back this summer? Hosting a food and fund drive in support of The Food Bank of Waterloo Region is an easy, impactful way to help neighbours in need and make a real difference in our community.
When you host a food and fund drive, you’re directly supporting the one in eight households in Waterloo region accessing food assistance. Every bag and box of non-perishable food is distributed through our partners in the Community Food Assistance Network, helping more than 73,600 people experiencing food insecurity.
And it’s not just food donations that help. With the funds raised, The Food Bank can fill gaps in our inventory, buy food that meets diverse cultural and dietary needs, and keep our warehouse running and delivery trucks on the road.
Not sure how to get started? Try one of these fun ideas:
- Lemonade stand
Sell lemonade or iced tea and ask for food or monetary donations instead of charging a set price. - Car wash
Wash cars for donations of non-perishable food or funds. - Bake sale
Bake cookies, squares, cakes, and pies that neighbours can ‘buy’ with a donation. - Garage sale
Invite buyers to contribute non-perishable food items or a financial gift. - Summer barbeque
Grill up burgers, sausages, or hot dogs and invite neighbours to donate in exchange for lunch.
