The power of partnerships: How Chris White helps businesses make a difference

At The Food Bank of Waterloo Region, our staff work tirelessly behind the scenes every day—securing and processing donations, organizing fundraising events and campaigns, sorting and storing food, and delivering orders to the 61 organizations in the Community Food Assistance Network. They also support our volunteers and collaborate with Network partners, all with one clear goal: to ensure no one in our community goes hungry.

One of our dedicated team members is Chris White, who joined The Food Bank in May 2024 as our philanthropy officer, corporate partnerships. In this role, Chris builds and nurtures meaningful relationships with local businesses, helping them support The Food Bank in ways that align with their values and goals—whether that means increasing brand visibility, engaging employees in hands-on volunteer experiences, or demonstrating a commitment to giving back to the community.

“There are countless ways to get involved with The Food Bank,” Chris says. “From corporate donations and fundraising initiatives to sponsorships and fun team-building activities—whether in our warehouse or at your location—there’s something for every business. We also offer cross-promotional opportunities that align with your brand and community goals.”

Since joining the team, Chris has been continually impressed by the scale of what goes on behind the scenes. Between July 2024 and June 2025, The Food Bank distributed 9.6 million pounds of food to 61 partner organizations, supporting nearly 73,000 people across Waterloo region.

“When I first started, I had no idea how big the need was or the impact of the Community Food Assistance Network,” Chris shares.

One of Chris’ biggest challenges is helping people understand that The Food Bank operates as a distribution centre.

“Many people have different ideas about what a food bank is,” he says. “Explaining what we do, how we support the Network, and why it matters can be challenging—but it’s so important.”

Despite this challenge, Chris finds his work incredibly rewarding—especially when it comes to building partnerships that strengthen the community and make a tangible difference in the lives of neighbours experiencing food insecurity.

“Working with the local business community to create change in Waterloo region is incredibly rewarding,” he shares. “It’s about building relationships that have a real impact.”

Chris encourages businesses interested in learning more to reach out to him.
