There’s no time to hope food prices drop in Waterloo region—people need help now

In this month’s op-ed, Kim Wilhelm, interim CEO of The Food Bank of Waterloo Region, calls for change to happen now to improve the health and well-being of individuals and families struggling to afford the foods they need. In line with the policy recommendations made by Feed Ontario, minimum wage rose to $15.50 an hour in October 2022. However, this still falls short of a livable wage for most Ontarians. A minimum wage simply isn’t enough for most people to make ends meet so we must advocate for true solutions to hunger and poverty including putting an end to legislated poverty, making housing affordable, and ensuring decent jobs for all.
