Change of leadership announcement

The Food Bank of Waterloo Region Board of Directors announced after 24 years of service, Chief Executive Officer, Wendi Campbell will not be returning from her current medical leave. As many of you know, Wendi has been battling cancer since June of 2022.

Wendi’s commitment to community service innovation in our region is unparalleled. As a dedicated leader and driving force for our organization, she led the procurement of over 40 million pounds of food for our region. Wendi played a pivotal role in the development of the provincial distribution network, working with numerous provincial and national committees to improve systems related to food security across our communities.

Wendi leaves a profound legacy of innovation, progress, and impact. We will continue to work towards that vision, honouring Wendi and her commitment to our organization and community.

As we look ahead, the Board of Directors is committed to a seamless leadership transition, one that recognizes Wendi’s commitment to tackling food insecurity across the community.

It is with this plan in mind that we are pleased to announce Kim Wilhelm will be stepping into the role of Chief Executive Officer for The Food Bank of Waterloo Region. Kim assumed the role of Interim CEO in June 2022, taking responsibility for all operational matters. Before this, Kim was Vice President of Philanthropy and Partnerships with The Food Bank. In both roles with The Food Bank, Kim has demonstrated herself to be a charismatic and forward-thinking leader with a passion for community service. We are confident in Kim’s commitment to improving the lives of those in need across the region.

The Board of Directors is happy to welcome Kim to the role of CEO on a permanent basis. She brings years of experience in strategic leadership and community engagement and we look forward to Kim’s leadership and direction as The Food Bank embarks on a new chapter.
