Helping neighbours in need is a community effort. Here at The Food Bank of Waterloo Region, we couldn’t support our community the way we do without the incredible generosity of sponsors like Home Hardware Stores Limited, Canada’s largest independent home improvement retailer.
“Home Hardware is a fixture in communities across Canada which is why we believe it is so important to support the communities that support us,” says Laura Hughes, public relations manager at Home Hardware. “Giving back has always been a pillar of our business, from the corporate level down to the store level.”
Home Hardware has been supporting The Food Bank for over 25 years and currently sponsors our Food & Fund Drive program. If you’ve ever organized or participated in a food and fund drive, you might have seen the Home Hardware logo on our bags and boxes. Their sponsorship alone this year provides 20,000 meals for people in need.
“It is so important to us at Home Hardware to give back to the community we live and work in,” Laura says. “By partnering with The Food Bank, we are directly supporting the important services they provide that thousands of people in the region access each year.”
In Waterloo region, food insecurity is rising rapidly. As many as 1 in 10 households struggle to afford to put food on the table and need food assistance. Two years ago, that number was 1 in 20.
“This was a big eye-opener for me, and it makes it all the more important for us to support the work The Food Bank does,” Laura says. “My favourite part of sponsoring The Food Bank is knowing that Home Hardware is making a real difference in the lives of community members who may be struggling.”
In addition to sponsoring our Food & Fund Drive program, a team from Home Hardware recently came to The Food Bank to volunteer. They helped with sorting non-perishable food. They also received a tour of our warehouse. Here are some photos from their visit.
